Fighting for Equal Representation
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, The Collective, the nation’s largest group of affiliated organizations dedicated to increasing Black political representation across all levels of government, responded to Jaime Harrison’s selection as the next Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Founders of The Collective, Quentin James and Stefanie Brown James, released the following statement:
“We are thrilled to congratulate Jaime Harrison on his appointment as Chair of the Democratic National Committee. As the former Chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party and DNC National Vice-Chair, Jaime has shown time and again that he is a committed and proven coalition builder who understands the importance of supporting Black candidates and the need to invest in the Democratic Party’s most consistent voting blocs. His leadership will be instrumental to The Collective’s efforts to expand the electorate and deepen our work to build a New South that recognizes the power of Black voters and Black candidates in Southern states. We were proud to be an early supporter of Jaime in his history-making campaign for the U.S. Senate in South Carolina, and we are confident that Jaime will bring the same grit and passion he showed on the campaign trail to his tenure as chair.”
