For Your Radar – April 2022

Throughout 2022, The Collective PAC will provide pertinent updates every month on our work to support Black candidates running nationwide, as well as results of key research projects and groundbreaking initiatives we’ll be undertaking as we work to increase Black political engagement, representation and power across all levels of government. 

Supporting Ketanji Brown Jackson for the United States Supreme Court

On April 7th, The Collective PAC congratulated Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson on her bipartisan Senate confirmation to become the United States’ first Black woman Supreme Court Justice.  

Special Election Primary Victory in California

On April 11th, we also celebrated Lourin Hubbard advancing to the June 7th special run-off election to fill the vacant seat in Calfironia’s 22nd U.S. Congressional District. 

April Endorsements

The Collective PAC endorsed three candidates running for Lieutenant Governor in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ohio ; as well as endorsed two Congressional Black Caucus members seeking re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Finally, The Collective PAC endorsed a slate of candidates running for state and local office in Ohio and Tennessee.

“Our Collective Power” Speaker Series 

The second installment of our 2022 speaker series featured two Black women running to become the next governors of Iowa and South Carolina, respectively: Deirdre Dejear and Mia McCleod. These candidates, along with Stacey Abrams in Georgia, are working hard to become the first Black women to occupy governors’ mansions in the country’s history. The Collective PAC Endorses State & Local Candidates In Ohio and Tennessee

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, The Collective PAC, the nation’s largest political action committee dedicated to increasing Black political engagement, representation, and power across all levels of government  —  has endorsed Jeffery Saffold, Councilwoman Meredith M. Turner, and Judge Michael John Ryan in Ohio, and Brian Bush, Marcus Shute Jr., Judge Rachel L. Bell, and Robin Kimbrough Hayes in Tennessee. 

Ohio

  • Mr. Jeffery Saffold is running to serve Cuyahoga County as a Judge on the Common Pleas Court. Mr. Saffold has been fighting for the people as an attorney for over 25 years; he plans to continue the fight for justice if elected. 


  • Councilwoman Meredith M. Turner is running for re-election for Cuyahoga County Council in District 9. Councilwoman plans to empower the community through civic engagement and job opportunities. 


  • Judge Michael John Ryan is running to serve on Ohio’s Eighth District Court of Appeals.  Judge Ryan is committed to creating equity within the courtroom and improving the community’s participation in court proceedings. 

 

Tennessee

  • Mr. Brian Bush is running to serve as a Chattanooga City Court Judge. Mr. Bush is a Chattanooga native, lawyer, community advocate, U.S. Navy officer, and former Assistant District Attorney; he aspires to use his experiences to usher in a new vision for City Court.


  • Mr. Marcus Shute Jr. is running to serve as Davidson County’s Division 6  Criminal Court Judge. Mr. Shute is dedicated to reducing recidivism through treatment and rehabilitation, increasing mental health and substance programs, and strengthening the community.


  • Judge Rachel L. Bell is running for re-election for  Davidson County’s General Session Court,   Division VIII.  Judge Bell aspires to continue to advocate for criminal justice reform and public safety. 


  • Mrs. Robin Kimbrough Hayes is running for Davidson County’s General Session Court, Division V. Mrs. Hayes has dedicated over a decade working as Legal Counsel for Tennessee Coalition; she aims to increase judicial access, use restorative justice for criminal and civil matters, and conduct community town halls.

The Collective PAC Endorses U.S. Representatives Sanford Bishop & Nikema Willams for Re-Election in Georgia

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, The Collective PAC, the nation’s largest political action committee dedicated to increasing Black political engagement, representation, and power across all levels of government  —  has endorsed Representatives Sanford Bishop and Nikema Williams for re-election in Georgia.

  • Representative Sanford Bishop is running for re-election to represent Georgia’s Second Congressional District. Rep. Bishop has been a champion for Georgia for the past 14 years; if re-elected he plans to continue his legacy of creating job opportunities, safer and stronger communities, and expanding educational opportunities.

 

  • Representative Nikema Williams is running for re-election to represent Georgia’s Fifth Congressional District. Rep. Williams plans to continue her legacy of fighting for voting rights, social justice, accessible healthcare, reproductive rights, and being a sounding board for the unheard.

“The Collective PAC is proud to endorse Representatives Sanford Bishop and Nikema Willams on their re-election bid for Congressional Districts in Georgia. The Collective PAC Endorses Cheryl Stephens For Lieutenant Governor of Ohio

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, The Collective PAC, the nation’s largest political action committee dedicated to increasing Black political engagement, representation, and power across all levels of government  —  has endorsed Cheryl Stephens for Lieutenant Governor of Ohio.

Councilmember Cheryl Stephens is running for Lieutenant Governor in Ohio.  Councilmember Stephens represents Cuyahoga County’s 10th District; she is also the current CEO of the East Akron Neighborhood Development Corporation, which provides affordable housing and neighborhood revitalization. If elected, Councilmember Stephens will continue to focus on pushing communities to thrive through building affordable housing, creating safe and healthy neighborhoods, and increasing investment in local businesses.

“We are proud to endorse Cheryl Stephens in her bid for Lieutenant Governor of Ohio.
