Press Release

Los Angeles County Can Make History this November by Electing Cecil Rhambo for Sheriff

Tuesday, January 18th, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, The Collective PAC — the nation’s largest political action committee dedicated to increasing Black political engagement, representation and power across all levels of government — endorsed Cecil Rhambo for Los Angeles County Sheriff as part of The Collective’s Justice For All Initiative.

Cecil Rhambo currently serves as the Chief of Airport Police at Los Angeles International Airport and Van Nuys airports, where he leads the nation’s largest dedicated airport public safety force by overseeing more than 1,100 sworn and civilian personnel. Officer Rhambo began his 33-year career in law enforcement by joining the LA County Sheriff’s department after graduating from Humboldt State University. He quickly moved up the ranks, becoming a Lieutenant at Internal Affairs, where he assisted in creating a database where the misconduct records of officers would be tracked, and other measures that ensure thorough review of the use of force cases. Officer Rhambo has worked all over LA County in patrol, leading the Mental Health Response Team, prison realignment, and narcotics in an undercover capacity for both the county and as a deputized federal agent.

Founders of The Collective PAC, Quentin James and Stefanie Brown James, released the following statement:

The Collective PAC is excited to endorse Cecil Rhambo to become Los Angeles County’s next Sheriff. Throughout his decades-long career, Officer Rhambo has shown a commitment to community policing and community outreach. From his time leading the Asian Crime Task Force to serving as Captain of Compton’s Sheriff patrol, his work has resulted in a dramatic reduction in crime, gang activity,  and traffic fatalities. After leaving the city of Compton, Officer Rhambo designed the basic model of how the Sheriff’s Department addresses homeless people that is still used today. Cecil Rhambo has proven that he has the experience and ability to restore trust and bring accountability to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office.”
