Fighting for Equal Representation
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, The Collective PAC — the nation’s largest political action committee dedicated to increasing Black political engagement, representation and power across all levels of government — congratulated Mayor Randall Woodfin on his primary election win for reelection as Mayor of Birmingham, Alabama. Founders of The Collective PAC, Quentin James and Stefanie Brown James, released the following statement:
“Mayor Randall Woodfin is a champion for social justice and The Collective PAC is proud to support his bid for reelection as Mayor of Birmingham. As mayor, Randall Woodfin has remained committed to making the city an equitable, inclusive and safe place for every resident in the city’s 99 neighborhoods. During his first term, Mayor Woodfin established the Division of Social Justice and Racial Equity to oversee the nation’s first Office of Peace and Police, and the initiatives Pardons for Progress and Birmingham Promise. He has reimagined public safety, strengthened public health infrastructure and revitalized neighborhoods. Mayor Woodfin is a changemaker who has moved Birmingham forward and still has more to accomplish. The Collective PAC is proud to have stood with him from the beginning and looks forward to four more years of the Woodfin administration.”
Mayor Randall Woodfin was born and raised in a multi-generational household in Birmingham, Alabama. After graduating from Morehouse College, Mayor Woodfin moved back to his hometown and began working in city government, both for the mayor and city council and worked for the Jefferson County Committee on Economic Opportunity. Prior to his election in 2017, Mayor Woodfin served as President of the Birmingham City School Board and as a City Attorney. Through these experiences, Mayor Woodfin was motivated to chart a course for his hometown to become a more inclusive and equitable place for residents, leading to his first mayoral campaign and becoming the city’s youngest mayor elected to office in over 120 years.
