The Collective PAC Congratulates Our Endorsed Candidates in Maryland On Primary Victory

WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, The Collective PAC  — the nation’s largest political action committee dedicated to increasing Black political engagement, representation, and power across all levels of government  —  congratulates our endorsed candidates in Maryland on their primary victories.

Statewide

  • Mr. Wes Moore is a native of Takoma Park, an author, combat veteran, Rhodes Scholar, and former CEO of one of the largest anti-poverty organizations in the country. Mr. Moore is committed to helping all Marylanders thrive and strengthening the state’s infrastructure through economic development, accessible healthcare, and high-quality educational opportunities. 

 

  • Representative Anthony Brown is running for Attorney General in Maryland. Currently, he serves Maryland’s 4th congressional district in the House of Representatives. In his dedicated time of public service, Rep. Brown fearlessly advocates for increased safety measures, transparency within the government, accountability,  and reform for criminal and military justice. 

 

State Legislature 

  • Delegate Jazz Lewis is running for re-election to the Maryland House of Representatives in District 24. Currently, he serves as a delegate in the Maryland General Assembly, where he has sponsored and supported legislation to expand access to healthcare, passed tax credits to incentivize grocery stores in food deserts, and supported new opportunities for young people. Before becoming a delegate in 2017, Del. Lewis worked as a community organizer in Baltimore, where he learned the power of collective action and the importance of cultivating personal relationships within a movement. He took what he learned as an organizer and worked to elect candidates up and down the ballot that brought together people of all backgrounds to promote a better and more inclusive Maryland. 

 

  • Delegate Andrea Harrison is running for re-election to Maryland’s House of Delegates in District 24. Delegate Harrison previously served  Maryland as a City Councilwoman for District Five. In 2021, Delegate Harrison aided in the building of Prince George’s County  Regional Medical Center,  now titled the University of Maryland Capital Region Health. If re-elected, Delegate Harrison plans to prioritize accessible healthcare and mental care services, uplift and improve education in the district, and increase economic development.

 

  • Representative Nick Charles is running for re-election in District 25 for the House of Delegates. Rep.Charles is determined to keep uplifting the communities and pushing Maryland to thrive through advocating for teachers and funding for education,  effective reintegration reform, and economic empowerment. 

 

  • Delegate Gabriel Acevero is running for re-election to Maryland’s House of Delegates in District 39. During his first term, Delegate Acevero wrote and sponsored Anton’s Law, formerly known as the Maryland Police Accountability Act of 2021. This legislation made police discipline and complaint records available to the public. If re-elected, Delegate Acevero plans to advocate for workers’ rights and affordable housing, and continue to sponsor legislation such as the Healthy Maryland Act, which would provide healthcare at an affordable price.   

 

  • State Senator Will Smith is running for re-election to the Maryland State Senate in District 20. State Senator Smith is a lawyer and a United States Navy Reserve officer. He specializes in national security and employment discrimination. During his tenure,  State Senator Smith has sponsored the CROWN Act, ending discrimination against hair texture and hairstyles, and the HOME Act, ending house discrimination based on one legal source of income. State Senator Smith plans to keep advocating for equity in education, defending voting rights, and expanding economic opportunities. 

 

Local

  • Committee Member Diana Emerson is running for re-election to Baltimore City Democratic State Central Committee in District 43. Committee member Emerson currently serves the communities in Baltimore as the Senior Director of Entrepreneurial and Workforce Experiences for Junior Achievement of Central Maryland. Ms. Emerson has organized community cleanup initiatives, back-to-school drives, and a National Night Out, a focused event to promote an inclusive and safe environment. If re-elected Committee Member Emerson plans to increase voter registration, advocate for increased retail opportunities for small businesses and support for urban farmers, and increased wages. 

 

  • Ms. Tiffany Jones is running for Baltimore City Democratic State Central Committee in District 45. Ms. Jones is dedicated to fighting for equity in Medicaid, education reform, community-centered public safety,  and advocating for the LGBTQ+ community.  

 

  • Councilmember Will Jawando is running for re-election to Montgomery County Council for the At-Large seat.  Councilmember Jawando currently serves on the Education and Culture Committee and the Planning, Housing, and Economic Development Committee. Mr. Jawando is the co-founder of the African Immigrant Caucus, an organization that focuses on increased civic engagement, economic development, and political participation of Africans in Maryland, D.C., and Virginia. If re-elected, Councilmember Jawando plans to continue to advocate for affordable housing, educational advancement, and economic development. 

 

  • Ms. Crystal Francis is running for Baltimore County Council in District Five. Ms. Francis currently works as the Assistant Director of Program Management for Georgetown University Pivot Program, assisting with economic independence and opportunities for returning citizens through education, employment, and entrepreneurship. Before working with the Pivot Program, she served as a bipartisan public policy expert at the United States Social Security Administration. If elected, Ms. Francis plans to rally support for local businesses, advocate for accessible broadband, and increase community engagement. 

 

  • Mr. John D.B. Carr is running for Prince George’s County Sheriff. Mr. Carr has 20 years of law enforcement experience with the Prince George’s County Office of the Sheriff. He has served in several supervisory positions, including the Warrants and Fugitive Division, Domestic Violence Intervision Division, and Internal Affairs Division.  Mr. Carr currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, serving as one of three Assisting Sheriffs, and commands the Bureau of Field Operations. If elected, Mr. Carr plans to invest in mental health programs, expand community outreach, and fight to end domestic violence.

The Collective PAC is strategically focused on creating a truly equitable democracy where our nation’s local, state, and federal governments have diverse and talented elected leadership and Black people are fully represented in positions of power to create the policies necessary to progress our communities forward. Over the past five years, The Collective PAC has successfully helped 300 Black candidates win elections across the United States.
