The Collective PAC Congratulates Our Endorsed Candidates in Michigan On primary victories

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, The Collective PAC — the nation’s largest political action committee dedicated to increasing Black political engagement, representation, and power across all levels of government  —  congratulates our endorsed candidates on their primary victories in Michigan. 

Statewide 

  • Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II is running for re-election in Michigan. Before serving as the Lieutenant Governor, Mr. Gilchrist graduated with honors from the University of Michigan with a degree in engineering and computer science, and worked as a software engineer at Microsoft. Lt. Governor Gilchrist is an engineer, social entrepreneur, and community organizer who believes in investing in the communities of Michigan. He co-chairs the Michigan Joint Task Force on Jail and Pretrial Incarceration and the Coronavirus Task Force on Racial Disparities. Lieutenant Governor Gilchrist plans to continue his legacy of creating economic and job opportunities, rebuilding Michigan’s roads and bridges, investing in education and childcare, and keeping communities safe. 

 

State Legislature

  • State Representative Helena Scott is running for re-election to the Michigan House of Representatives in District Seven. State Rep. Scott is currently serving her first term and has accomplished securing over $1 billion for Detroit public schools, sponsored and cosponsored over 500 bills, and created and chaired the House of Legislature Care Caucus.  If re-elected, State Rep. Scott plans to promote gun control reform, improve state and local infrastructure, and improve the quality of education to increase student literacy, retention, and graduation rates. 

 

  • State Representative Joe Tate is running for re-election to Michigan’s House of Representatives in District Ten. Prior to serving in Michigan’s House of Representatives, He served in the United States Marine Corps as an Infantry Officer. During his tenure in the state house, State Rep. Tate’s legislation led to the reopening of the Lewis College of Business, Michigan’s only recognized HBCU. If re-elected, he plans to increase the quality of education and youth programs in the district, create job opportunities and stimulate economic growth, and invest in public transportation. 

 

  • Mr. Larry Jackson is running for Michigan’s House of Representatives in District 86. Mr. Jackson is a Navy veteran and former Vice President for the Chicago Eco House, a nonprofit that alleviates poverty through building sustainability projects. If elected, he plans to invest in education throughout the district by enhancing recruitment and retention, creating a comprehensive plan for infrastructure, and advocating for accessible healthcare and housing. 

 

Municipal

  • Commissioner Justin Hodge is running for re-election to the Washtenaw County Commission in District Five.  During his first term, Commissioner Hodge successfully launched a countywide Children’s Saving Account Program and increased the investment in the county’s Health Department. Currently, Commissioner Hodge teaches social work at the University of Michigan, teaching and empowering his students to find policy solutions for real-life application. If re-elected, Mr. Hodge aspires to advocate for affordable housing through inclusionary zoning, investing in renewable energy sources, and consistency in policing and training.

The Collective PAC Congratulates Jevin Hodge & Representative Cori Bush On Primary Victories

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, The Collective PAC — the nation’s largest political action committee dedicated to increasing Black political engagement, representation, and power across all levels of government — congratulates Jevin Hodge and Representative Cori Bush on their primary victories in Arizona and Missouri.

Mr. Jevin Hodge is running to represent Arizona’s First Congressional District. From a young age, Mr. Hodge found meaning in giving back and public service, which is why he leads the Booker T. Washington Child Development Center — the longest-running Head Start center in the state. Mr. Hodge understands the issues facing Arizona families and is running for Congress to ensure quality healthcare for everyone, address income inequality and fully fund public education in Arizona.

Representative Cori Bush is running for re-election to Missouri’s First Congressional District. Congresswoman Bush is an activist, nurse, pastor, and community leader. During her first term, she introduced transformative legislation such as the Green New Deal for Cities and the People’s Response Act to congress. Rep. Bush also rebuilt crumbling infrastructure, cleaned up the community’s natural resources, like Coldwater Creek, and led a national campaign to prevent people from being evicted. If re-elected, Congresswoman Bush seeks to keep advocating for voting rights, fighting for reproductive rights, and transforming public safety.

The Collective PAC Endorses Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos For Re-election in Rhode Island

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, The Collective PAC  — the nation’s largest political action committee dedicated to increasing Black political engagement, representation, and power across all levels of government — endorsed Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos for re-election in Rhode Island.

Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos is running for re-election as Lieutenant Governor in Rhode Island. Lt. Governor Matos is a graduate of Rhode Island College and the Latina Leadership Institute and Leadership for a Future.  Before being sworn into office, she served ten years on the Providence City Council. She made history in 2021 by becoming the first Black and Latina person and the second woman to serve as Lieutenant Governor. During her tenure, Lt. Governor Matos raised private funds for the Rhode Island Military Family Relief Fund, the relief fund was created for extending financial support to military families.

The Collective PAC Endorses A Slate of Candidates For State and Local Races in Florida

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, The Collective PAC  — the nation’s largest political action committee dedicated to increasing Black political engagement, representation, and power across all levels of government — endorsed a slate of candidates for state and local races in Florida.

  • Mrs. Helen Lurry is running for  Saint Lucie County Commission in District Four.  Mrs. Lurry is a realtor, former educator, criminal justice professional, and first-generation American. She attended Bethune-Cookman University and received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Criminal Justice and received her Master’s Degree from the State University of New York at Albany.  If elected, Mrs. Lurry aspires to improve schools and the infrastructure in the district. 

 

  • Mrs. Paula DeBoles-Johnson is running for Leon County Commission in District Five. Mrs. DeBoles-Johnson is the Founder and Executive Director of the nonprofit organization Capital City Youth Development Corporation, which is dedicated to youth development and empowerment through education, community service, and training. Currently, she serves as the Employee Engagement and Performance Manager for Leon County Government. If elected, Mrs. DeBoles-Johnson plans to invest in economic development by supporting small businesses and encouraging entrepreneurship opportunities, advocating for safe and affordable housing, increased youth development programs, and criminal justice reform. 

 

  • Mrs. Tiffany Hughes is running for Florida House of Representatives in District 39. Mrs. Hughes is a community advocate, mentor, and owner of KBI Staffing Solutions LLC, a staffing firm. She is a graduate of the Florida International University and is the youngest President in history to be elected to the Orange County Florida chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. If elected, Mrs. Hughes seeks to address the housing crisis, expand medicare, and increase funding for schools and educators.
