The Collective PAC Endorses A Slate of Candidates for State and Local Races in Ohio

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, The Collective PAC  — the nation’s largest political action committee dedicated to increasing Black political engagement, representation, and power across all levels of government — endorsed a slate of candidates for state and local races in Ohio.

  • State Representative Dontavius Jarrells is running for re-election to the Ohio House of Representatives in District One. Before serving in the state legislature, State Rep. Jarrells worked at the Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities and the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. He is currently serving his first term, and has introduced legislation to increase the minimum wage and New Dignity for Upward Progression (A HAND UP) Act, which assists in the transition from public assistance to working. If re-elected, State Rep. Jarrells plans to improve literacy initiatives, expand early childhood education, and support science, technology, engineering, and mathematics programs. 

 

  • Mr. Ismail Mohammed is running for Ohio House of Representatives in District Three. Mr. Mohammed received his Bachelor of Science and a law degree from The Ohio State University. In 2017, he became one of the first Somali-born licensed attorneys in Ohio and currently works in private practice. If elected, Mr. Mohammed will advocate for affordable and accessible housing, invest in education, and create job opportunities.

  • Ms. Munira Abdullahi is running for Ohio House of Representatives in District Nine. Ms. Abdullahi is a first-generation Somali American with a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University. She has ten years of experience working for nonprofits promoting youth development, community service, and leadership. Ms. Abdullahi is passionate about making healthcare and medicine accessible and affordable. If elected, Ms. Adbullahi aspires to advocate for economic development, public safety, and invest in education. 

 

  • Mr. Darnell Brewer is running for Ohio House of Representatives in District 18. Mr. Brewer is a social service coordinator, activist, business owner, and former educator.  If elected, Mr. Brewer aspires to advocate for police reform, expanding access to resources for economic development, and addressing inequality such as poverty in District 18.

 

  • Hon. Dale Mallory is running for Ohio House of Representatives in District 24. Hon. Mallory formerly served in the Ohio House of Representatives in District 32. His dedication to public service is a longtime family tradition,  Mr. Mallory is the third Mallory to be elected to the Ohio House of Representatives.  If elected, Mr. Mallory plans to advocate for accessible housing and improved transportation.

 

  • State Representative Tavia Galonski is running for re-election to the Ohio House of Representatives in District 33.  Before serving in the state legislature, State Rep. Galonski served as a magistrate in the Summit County Court of Common Pleas and the county’s juvenile court.  As a former Teamster with 15 years of legal experience,  she understands the importance of uplifting and empowering the community. If re-elected, State Rep. Galonski plans to raise the minimum wage and fight for reproductive justice. 

 

  • Mrs. Erika White is running for Ohio House of Representatives in District 42.  Mrs. White is a telecommunications specialist, a community advocate, and the current President of the local chapter of the Communications Workers of America. She founded the Fitzone brand to engage, uplift, and invest in the community’s health.  If elected, Mrs. White plans to advocate for increased wages, gun reform, and public safety.  

  • State Representative Thomas West is running for re-election to the Ohio House of Representatives in District 49. State Rep. West has been serving the community for the past 25 years first as a City Councilman, then as the former President of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus, and currently is the Assistant Minority Leader in the Ohio House Democratic Caucus.  Recently, State Rep. West announced a budget of $1.1 million for the 49th District. If re-elected, State Rep. West plans to continue to fight for equality and diversity, accessible healthcare, and building stronger communities. 

 

  • Mrs. Regan Phillips is running for Ohio House of Representatives in District 52. Mrs. Phillips currently serves the community as the Administrative Assistant for the Council Clerk’s Office in Elyria, Ohio. She is the President of the Community Foundation of Lorain County-African American Community Fund and Lorain County Section, National Council of Negro Women. If elected, Mrs. Phillips aspires to advocate for reproductive rights, sustainable living wages, and invest in and improve roadways and infrastructure. 

 

  • Mrs. Vallie Bowman-English is running for Lucas County Juvenile Court Judge. Mrs. Bowman-English serves the community as the Clerk of the Toledo Municipal Court. She plans to use her 18 years of experience in transparency and respectability in the courtroom. If elected, Mrs. Bowman-English plans to create a courtroom where the community can feel safe, be treated with respect, and be heard.
