Tuesday, June 14th, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, The Collective PAC  — the nation’s largest political action committee dedicated to increasing Black political engagement, representation, and power across all levels of government — endorsed two candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives in Maryland, New York, and North Carolina and a candidate for the United States Senate in Alabama.

Alabama

  • Dr. William Boyd is running to represent Alabama in the United States Senate. Dr. Boyd is the current Bishop of Zion Ministries and Pastor of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. In 2016, he was the Democratic nominee for Alabama’s Fifth Congressional District. Soon after, in 2017, he was elected as Chairman of the Lauderdale County Democratic Executive Committee. In 2018, Dr. Boyd was the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor. If elected, Dr. Boyd plans to build economic development by working with businesses and Organized Labor, advocating for affordable and accessible healthcare, and investing in educational equity by partnering with community leaders and teachers.

Maryland

  • Ms. Donna Edwards is running to represent Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District. Former Congresswoman Edwards previously held this seat from 2008 to 2017. During her tenure, she created 100,000 job opportunities, expanded STEM education in schools, and increased the historic investments in HBCUs. In 2021, Ms. Edwards became a political analyst for NBC/MSNBC bringing her political prowess to television. If elected, she plans to reduce prescription drug prices, advocate for accessible high-speed internet, union-built new roads and bridges, and increased public transportation.

New York

  • Representative Mondaire Jones is running to represent New York’s Tenth Congressional District. He currently represents New York’s 17th Congressional District. Rep. Jones is a progressive leader who recently secured $9 million for community projects for the 17th District. If elected, Rep. Jones plans to continue his fight to restore and strengthen our democracy so that we can guarantee health care for all, save the planet from climate catastrophe, and end gun violence.

North Carolina

  • State Senator Don Davis is running to represent North Carolina’s First Congressional District. State Senator Davis is a United States Air Force veteran, educator, minister, and former Mayor of Snow Hill. He currently serves District Five in The North Carolina State Senate and has been a political force in North Carolina since 2008. During his tenure, State Senator Davis has raised teachers’ salaries, expanded high-speed internet in rural areas, and secured $215 million in funding for the ECU Brody School of Medicine for accessible healthcare.

Founders of The Collective PAC, Quentin James and Stefanie Brown James, released the following statement:

“The Collective PAC is proud to endorse Dr. William Boyd in Alabama, Hon. Donna Edwards in Maryland, Congressman Mondaire Jones in New York, and State Senator Don Davis in North Carolina. A commitment to public service is one of the most important qualities a candidate should possess as they campaign to represent their districts and states in Washington, and each of these candidates shares this quality. Their experiences as community leaders and previously elected officials will bring new perspectives and fresh ideas to Congress. The Collective PAC looks forward to supporting these candidates on the campaign trail as they work to progress their communities forward.”
